5 ruled out of Newcastle clash and two facing late tests as Spurs boss Stellini talks SJP test

by Olly Hawkins ·

Tottenham will be without five senior players for Sunday's trip to St James' Park - but there's hope recently injured centre-back Clement Lenglet could pass a late fitness test.

Following Cristian Stellini's pre-match press conference - which kicked off with a powercut - it's been confirmed that Emerson Royal (knee), Ryan Sessegnon (hamstring), Rodrigo Bentancur (knee) and Yves Bissouma (ankle) remain out, with Lucas Moura still suspended.

Ben Davies has returned to training after several weeks on the sidelines, but it sounds like Sunday could come too soon for the Welsh international, putting pressure on Lenglet to be fit as their only other left-sided centre-back.

Stellini says the Barcelona loanee is "so so" and has taken part in light training, believing Saturday's final session will decide if he's able to start at St James' Park after he was forced off with a knock in last weekend's 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth.

The stand-in Spurs boss has also described the St James' Park atmosphere as "one of the worst" to play in for an away team, but insists his team are "well prepared" and refusing to believe they are out of the top-four race should they lose on Sunday.

Here's what he had to say about Davies and Lenglet's fitness going into the game:

“We have Ben Davies back in training, in part of the training so maybe not ready to play yet.

“Clement Lenglet is so so. We are trying to have him 100%. He trained. We are confident that tomorrow that he can train for a full session with the group rather than being apart.”
