£30m deal offered to Newcastle and newly-promoted club eyeing Toon defender - Report

by Andrew Reynolds ·

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle have been offered the chance to sign out-of-favour Harry Maguire for £30m with captain Jamaal Lascelles wanted by newly-promoted Luton Town.

It was reported over the weekend that we'd approached the Red Devils over a loan move for Maguire. However, it's thought Ten Hag has no interest in handing our favours to top-four rivals.

Personally, I can't see the club paying £30m for an out-of-favour 30-year-old on £200,000-per-week, even if his Premier League experience may appeal to Eddie Howe. I expect a right-sided CB to sign this summer, but would be surprised if Maguire arrives.

As for Lascelles, he made just two league starts over the 2022/23 season after dropping behind Fabian Schar and Sven Botman in the pecking order.

With just one year left on his deal, a move to Luton could give him the game time he's after at Premier League level, also offering him some security now he approaches the final 12 months of his Newcastle contract.
