Newcastle closing in on £50m deal for Inter Milan star - The Telegraph

Some huge claims have just arrived from The Telegraph's Luke Edwards, who reports that Newcastle United are 'closing in' on a £50m deal for Inter Milan star Nicolo Barella.

The report states that Toon chiefs are 'pushing hard' to bring the 26-year-old midfielder to St James' Park. There's still work to be done, it seems, but the piece reveals that intensive talks have taken place over the past few days.

Barella played a key role in Inter Milan's run to the Champions League final, shone at Euro 2020 and helped the Serie A giants win both domestic cups over the 2022/23 campaign.

Edwards adds that Barella and James Maddison are key targets for Eddie Howe, who could spend the vast majority of his budget on two top quality midfielders.

The high-energy, all-action Italian bagged nine goals and 10 assists across 52 appearances for Inter last season and would become the club's highest paid player if he does swap the San Siro for St James' Park.
