PSV star on Newcastle's radar but three players no longer on summer shortlist - Report
According to The Mail's Craig Hope, PSV sensation Xavi Simons has been added to Newcastle's list of potential summer targets.
However, the same report states that Leicester's Harvey Barnes, Celta Vigo's Gabriel Viega and Bayer Leverkusen's Moussa Diaby will NOT be pursued in the coming weeks.
The club are hoping to see Anthony Gordon emerge as a 'key player' next season, making a move for Barnes - another left winger - redundant at this stage. Diaby has slipped down Eddie Howe's list of targets and it's thought Viega is 'not the type of midfielder' we plan to target this summer.
Back to Simons, it's believed he features on a long list of options being considered by Howe and our recruitment team following his stunning form in the Eredivisie and breakthrough into the Netherlands squad.
The 20-year-old Dutchman bagged 22 goals and 12 assists in all competitions over the 2022/23 season, making an instant impact after arriving on a free from PSG last July.
His versatility may also appeal, as the former Barcelona youth product can operate down either flank or as a No 10. Time will tell if he's someone we'll actually pursue, but he'd certainly be an exciting signing.
