Newcastle consider moves for Monaco star and Crystal Palace defender - Report

by Olly Hawkins ·

According to new reports, Newcastle United are considering a move for Crystal Palace centre-back Joachim Andersen, with Monaco's Youssouf Fofana also on our list of targets.

This comes from FootballTransfers, who claim that Andersen has emerged as a defensive option for Eddie Howe now Napoli's Kim Min-jae looks set to join Bayern Munich.

It's thought the Dane's 'ball-playing ability' and impressive displays over the 2022/23 Premier League season has caught Newcastle's eye, with the club keen to recruit another right-sided centre-back able to compete with Fabian Schar.

Andersen is represented by CAA Stellar, the same agency that look after Toon trio Nick Pope, Elliot Anderson and Javier Manquillo.

As for Fofana, the report states that recruitment staff on Tyneside have recommended the 24-year-old midfielder following his impressive displays in Ligue 1. He has 12 months remaining on his Monaco contract and can operate as a holding midfielder or No 8.

FootballTransfers also state that Nice's Khephren Thuram and Borussia Monchengladbach's Manu Kone remain of interest at Newcastle, although the former is in talks to join Liverpool.
