Great news - Newcastle officials now en-route to complete Tonali medical ahead of 7.45pm clash

Fabrizio Romano is back again with an update on Sandro Tonali, confirming that Newcastle United staff will travel to Romania to complete the first part of the player's medical.

Why Romania you may ask? Tonali is with the Italy Under-21 squad, who are set to take on France in their opening game of the UEFA European Under-21 Championships at 7.45pm tonight.

It's not clear when Newcastle officials will arrive, but it's likely that the player begins his medical after tonight's game, with kick-off at the Cluj Arena less than five hours away at the time of Romano's update.

This update suggests that a deal for the 23-year-old is imminent, as staff would not board a flight to Romania if his £60m move to St James' Park was in any danger of collapsing.

As Romano reveals below, the official documents have already been sent to Tonali's camp, who are checking over a contract that would see him sign a six-year deal on Tyneside.
