Luke Edwards makes two Tonali claims and reveals Newcastle's plan after big-money move

Luke Edwards at The Telegraph reports that the fee Newcastle will actually pay for Sandro Tonali is less than the €70m (£60m) figure that's been doing the rounds.

He also claims that the Italian will be officially announced as a Toon player 'at the end of the week', suggesting we've got a little longer to wait yet.

The North East reporter adds that Newcastle will ‘pause and reflect’ on further incomings now a move for the Italian is all agreed, as this transfer has taken up a 'big chunk' of our budget.

As a result, it's Edwards' understanding that Toon chiefs are taking stock and evaluating what position to attack next, with the club also looking to move unwanted players and free up some space on the wage bill.

The likes of Jeff Hendrick and Isaac Hayden are up for grabs after returning from Championship loan spells. Ryan Fraser will leave after training away from the first team, while the likes of Jamal Lewis, Javier Manquillo and Karl Darlow could also be moved on.
