Newcastle shortlist Spanish talent after breakthrough season in the Premier League - Report

by Olly Hawkins ·

Newcastle United have identified Wolves full-back Hugo Bueno as a potential summer target, according to Football Insider.

They report that the 20-year-old has been shortlisted in our search for a new left-back, with the Spaniard considered a back-up option to top target Kieran Tierney.

Fulham's Antonee Robinson is also mentioned in the piece as a player on our radar, but the USA international looks set to stay at Fulham after signing a five-year-deal at Craven Cottage.

Bueno has been on Wolves' books since 2019 and has made his way through to their senior side after impressing in their U18 and U21 set up. He enjoyed a breakthrough season over 2022/23, making 23 appearances in all competitions; 21 of those came in the Premier League.

He looks a real talent and has been capped at youth level by Spain, yet it would be quite a drop down in experience and proven top flight pedigree to go from Tierney to Bueno.

That said, we clearly see huge potential in fellow target Tino Livramento - the Southampton right-back we're currently in talks to sign - so perhaps Eddie Howe believes Bueno is a player of huge potential who could become a first-team star before long?

Here's a few clips of the Spaniard in action:
