Toon target left out of pre-season friendly on Tuesday afternoon after Newcastle talks

Leicester City lost 2-1 to Peterborough in a behind-closed-doors friendly at the club's training ground on Tuesday afternoon - a pre-season match that did NOT feature Harvey Barnes.

New boss Enzo Maresca fielded two completely different 11s in each half, allowing 22 players to feature, but there was no Barnes following strong links with a move to St James' Park.

The official line from Leicester's official website says the 25-year-old was "rested", yet it seems pretty clear that he played no part due to ongoing talks with Newcastle United.

The Telegraph revealed yesterday that the winger has already verbally agreed to join Newcastle, accepting the wages on offer and chance to join Eddie Howe's side, leaving the transfer fee as the only hurdle left.

It's reported that Newcastle and Leicester are still apart on valuation - we've been linked with a £25m bid, while the Foxes are thought to value the winger at around £40m.

Either way, it's a promising sign that he played no part today and another indication that his potential move to Tyneside may be edging closer.
