Spurs join race to sign another Newcastle United target - Report

by Olly Hawkins ·

According to The Mail, Newcastle are facing competition from Spurs over the signing of Crystal Palace centre-back Joachim Andersen.

The Danish international has been linked with a move to St James' Park over the past few weeks, with The Guardian and iNews' Mark Douglas both reporting on our interest in the 27-year-old.

Now, in today's transfer confidential piece released by The Mail, it's claimed Tottenham - who beat us to a deal for James Maddison - have identified Andersen as a centre-back target after being priced out of deals for Wolfsburg's Micky van de Ven and Leverkusen's Edmond Tapsoba up until this point.

The Guardian report that the Eagles defender will cost in the region of £40m - a price Newcastle are highly unlikely to pay given our FFP issues - so it remains to be seen if Palace will reduce their demands.

Interestingly, the same article states that Monaco's Axel Disasi is also on our list of targets, with this coming after Sky Germany said we were leading the race for the Frenchman on Saturday.

The Sun's Alan Nixon has released his own piece on Andersen, stating the Ange Postecoglou is planning to rival Newcastle's interest in the Dane in a bid to bolster his defence.
