Fabrizio Romano issues Newcastle update on Barnes, Disasi and Saudi Pro League loans

by Andrew Reynolds · 18 July 2023, 07:15

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Newcastle are still working on a deal for Leicester's Harvey Barnes, with the 'key details' not yet agreed.

He also reveals that Monaco centre-back Axel Disasi is an ‘option’ following talks, but insists we are not looking at Saudi Pro League loans at this stage.

Howe refused to rule out loan deals from KSA, saying we'll pursue anything that benefits Newcastle United after Saturday's win at Gateshead, but Romano is not aware of any negotiations up to this point.

The ‘priority’, however, appears to revolve around potential deal for Barnes and Disasi, with a winger, centre-back and left-back wanted as we prepare for Champions League football and a busy season ahead.

For Barnes, it seems a fee is yet to be agreed and while we ‘remain in talks’ over Disasi, it's thought the Frenchman is not the only defender on our radar. Here's what Romano told CaughtOffside, followed by his latest tweet on Disasi:

"Despite some speculation, I’m not aware of negotiations to loan players from Saudi clubs to Newcastle at this point.

“The priority for now is elsewhere - they still have to agree key details of the Harvey Barnes deal and then Axel Disasi is an option as a new signing at centre-back, though not the only one.

"For sure I think we can expect Newcastle to be busy in the next weeks."
