Howe explains why he signed Harvey Barnes after £38m man arrives at USA camp
Eddie Howe has revealed that he has 'admired' new signing Harvey Barnes for a long time and is excited about the 'different element' he will bring to the team as his arrival is confirmed.
Barnes has already joined up with the team in the US as we prepare for our upcoming Summer Series fixtures - where he’s eligible to feature against Aston Villa at midnight tonight.
Howe has heaped praise on the 25-year-old's strength, pace and technical ability, as well as his keen eye for goal after netting 13 times in 34 Premier League games last season.
It will be interesting to see how the boss introduces our new signing into the starting line-up and what it means for Anthony Gordon, who typically plays in the same position as Barnes.
Here's what Howe had to say on Barnes' arrival:
"Harvey is an exciting talent who I have admired for a long time so I'm delighted to welcome him to Newcastle United.
"He's strong, quick and very good technically, and he showed last season in particular that he has an eye for a goal from wide positions.
"He will add a different element to our play and we look forward to working with him as we prepare for the season ahead."
