Dan Ashworth completes Brighton raid after Howe loses key man to Man City

Newcastle United have appointed Brighton's Jordan Tribe as the club's new coach analyst, replacing Mark Leyland following his move to Man City.

Leyland stayed until the end of the 2022/23 season, but his exit was confirmed in February and he's since joined the City Football Group as their Head of Coaching Methodology.

As revealed by The Chronicle, Tribe has been in place for 'several weeks' now after emerging as the outstanding candidate for the job, with Newcastle using recruitment partners the Executives in Sports Group after advertising for the role in April.

Dan Ashworth is well aware of Tribe following his time at the Amex, with the former Seagulls man working under Graham Potter and Robert De Zerbi as their senior first-team performance analyst. He rose through the ranks at Brighton and was promoted to the senior position back in 2018, before accepting Newcastle's offer earlier this summer to replace Leyland.

The former Liverpool analyst led analysis sessions, offered information on opposition's strengths and weaknesses and helped implement part of training sessions as a result. However, Tribe has almost a decade of experience and arrives highly-rated.

Eddie Howe was full of praise for Leyland when commenting on his exit a few months ago, saying: “Mark has had a big impact. He’s played a huge part in what we’ve done this season. He’s one of a number of people behind the scenes that have put a tireless amount of work in to try and improve the team. We love him to bits and he’s been an integral part of our team.”
