Newcastle set to launch two bids - Both players keen and loan talks could progress - Report
According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United have identified Arsenal's Kieran Tierney and Chelsea's Marc Cucurella as loan targets after stepping up our search for a new left-back.
Luke Edwards' Monday morning exclusive reveals that we've been given encouragement that both players are keen to make the move, giving Newcastle a decision to as we plan lhope to see talks progress this week.
It's hoped either deal would be a loan that includes and option or obligation to buy next summer and there is 'some confidence' a breakthrough can be reached with Arsenal or Chelsea. Both clubs have been reluctant to do us favours since the Saudi-backed takeover went through, but our 'big six' rivals have spent big in recent weeks and are looking to move both on.
Tierney was left out of Mikel Arteta's squad for Saturday's 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest, while Cucurella played no part in Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Sunday.
It's thought Arsenal in particular are 'very keen' to find a move for Tierney. They prefer to sell the 26-year-old, but a compromise could be reached that allows Newcastle to pay the fee in 12 months time, spreading out the cost as we continue to manage FFP constraints.
As for Chelsea, they spent £60m on Cucurella last summer and, like rsenal, would prefer to sell the left-back. However, the club are set to launch a loan bid that offers a small fee now and an option or obligation to buy at the end of the 2023/24 season.
