Howe seriously considered Premier League star before £55m move for Sandro Tonali - Report

In a piece confirming Man City's interest in Ebere Eze, the London Evening Standard have revealed that Newcastle United are also big admirers of the Crystal Palace star.

They report that Eddie Howe was seriously consiered a move for the England international earlier in the window, but the club ended up pursuing a £55m move for Sandro Tonali instead.

Eze was first linked to Newcastle during his time at QPR, who he left for Selhurst Park in a deal worth £20m back in August 2020.

Since then, he's gone from strength to strength at Palace and is one of the most exciting young players in the Premier League, earning a call-up to Gareth Southgate's Three Lions squad as a result.

His versatility, quality and huge potential would be a huge asset at Newcastle, but it looks like he's now on Pep Guardiola's radar following an injury to Kevin De Bruyne, seeing the Eagles place a £70m asking price on Eze's head.
