Newcastle officials spotted making 'last minute checks' on Belgian star - Alan Nixon

According to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, Newcastle United are showing interest in PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko.

He reports that both Newcastle and Spurs are making 'last minute checks' on the 20-year-old ahead of Friday's transfer deadline, with interest from both clubs described as 'genuine.'

Nixon adds that Toon officials were spotted at Ibrox last Tuesday to watch the Belgian international in PSV's 2-2 draw with Rangers. This was the first of two legs of their Champions League play-off decider and club scouts expected to watch him again in the return fixture on Wednesday.

Who knows if we're considering a late bid or eyeing him up for a future move in transfer windows to come, but it's interesting to see a new name linked after a quiet few weeks on the transfer front.

The youngster has four assists in six appearances this season and bagged nine goals and six assists last term, earning him a call-up to the Belgian national side.
