Sven Botman update - Good and bad news from Eddie Howe and journalist at St James' Park?
Eddie Howe admits Sven Botman's ankle injury "doesn't look good", but is waiting to hear more from the club's medical team.
The Dutchman landed awkwardly after heading wide in the second half of yesterday's 2-1 defeat to Liverpool and had to be helped off by two members of staff. However, one promising post-match update has arrived from The Athletic's Jacon Whitehead.
The North-East reporter claims the defender was NOT wearing a protective boot or crutches as he limped out of St James' Park after the game. So, while Howe's comments are hardly reassuring, we'll have to hope the injury isn't as serious as some first feared.
Here's what Howe told NUFC TV after the game, followed by his update for BBC Newcastle - where he confirmed that Joelinton was also forced off with a knee problem - and Whitehead's tweet from SJP:
"It looks like an ankle problem. I don't know what the damage is or how he's sustained it. He (Botman) was walking (off the pitch) with the aid of somebody, so it doesn't look good. But fingers crossed it settles down quickly."
Howe speaking to BBC Radio Newcastle on the extent of Botman's injury:
"I've got no idea. We'll have to wait and see. We'll speak to the medical team and see how bad the injury is first.
"I don't know (how bad it is) but it looked like an ankle problem. Joelinton had a knee problem, so we'll wait and see how they are."
