Fabrizio Romano reveals stance of Saudi owners and Howe message after third straight defeat

Fabrizio Romano insists that Eddie Howe is under no pressure whatsoever following our third straight league defeat.

It shouldn't need to be said - we've faced tough games against Man City, Liverpool and Brighton in our last three games - but the renowned journalist has issued an update on the owners' stance after a tough start to the 2023/24 season.

He reports that our Saudi-backed owners 'love the manager', saying there are 'no issues' whatsoever as the 45-year-old prepares for a kinder run of Premier League fixtures, along with our opening game of the UEFA Champions League; a trip to AC Milan two weeks tomorrow.

Here's what Romano's had to say on Howe and the stance of our owners after Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Brighton left us 14th in the table:

“It’s not been the best start to the season for Newcastle United, who have lost three in a row since their opening day win over Aston Villa. Of course this is a disappointment after the superb achievements of last season, but I think fans can be calm.

“My understanding is that Eddie Howe is absolutely not under pressure, it’s all quiet. The Newcastle owners love the manager and there are no issues at the moment.

“Of course Howe will have time to play Champions League football as Newcastle coach, there are no messages in a different direction at this moment in time.”

No Premier League side had a tougher start to the season. We may have struggled since kicking off the new campaign with a 5-1 win over Aston Villa, but that devastating defeat to Liverpool was a freak result.

Saturday's display at Brighton was concerning, as we were off the pace in all departments and didn't want it enough, yet it could've been a different game had Isak taken one of those two early openings.
