Newcastle could pursue January deal with Man City as summer target U-turns - Report

Kalvin Phillips is already planning a January loan move away from Man City, according to Mark Douglas at iNews.

He reports that Newcastle and Everton have both shown interest in the England international, but he decided to say at the Etihad to fight for his place under Pep Guardiola.

However, his 'increasingly uncertain' future at City and lack of game time has left him seriously considering his future, with Newcastle's 'need for a number six' also creating a potential opportunity for both parties in the new year.

It's thought Phillips is also keen to shore up his place in Gareth Southgate's squad for Euro 2024, as a season on the sidelines could harm his prospects at international level.

There would be 'no shortage of takers' should the 27-year-old leave on loan in January and Newcastle could be one to watch. Not only did we approach Man City over the summer, the early signs suggest we're lacking a natural holding midfielder.

Back in June, The Telegraph confirmed that Eddie Howe is a 'big fan' of Phillips, but saw an enquiry rejected as he preferred to stay at the time in a bid to prove his worth to Pep Guardiola.
