Newcastle scout spotted watching two players over the international break - Report

According to The Chronicle, senior Newcastle scout Mick Tait was in the stands for England's 3-1 win over Scotland on Tuesday night to watch two players in particular.

Lee Ryder reports that Tait was taking a closer look at Manchester United's Scott McTominay and Watford centre-back Ryan Porteous; two Scots named in Steve Clarke's starting line up at Hampden Park.

McTominay was heavily linked earlier in the summer window, but the club opted to sign AC Milan's Sandro Tonali instead. However, it seems the 6ft 4' midfielder remains on our radar heading into 2024.

As for Porteous, the 24-year-old has impressed for club and country since leaving Hibernian for Watford back in January. He's also a right-sided centre-back, with this an area we're expected to strengthen in upcoming transfer windows to offer added depth and competition for Fabian Schar.

The summer transfer window hasn't long closed, but Eddie Howe has said previously that it takes "months" of work to line up targets, making this one of several scouting missions Mick Tait is likely to go on between now and January.
