6 Man City stars ruled out of Newcastle trip and Guardiola makes "1%" claim - Great news

by Olly Hawkins ·

Based on recent injuries and Pep Guardiola's rotation plans, it looks like champions Man City will be without at least FIVE key players for Wednesday's trip to St James' Park.

Pep has confirmed that Ruben Dias and Kyle Walker will both be rested after playing too many games lately for club and country, while Rodri is suspended following his straight red card in Saturday's 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

Elsewhere, Kevin De Bruyne remains out, Bernardo Silva will be missing for another week, John Stones has a thigh problem and Mateo Kovacic is touch and go after missing their last three.

As a result, Guardiola plans to play some Academy players and rotate heavily, saying "I am not going to waste 1% of energy for the Carabao Cup" ahead of their trip to St James' Park. Watch what he's had to say below:

“Some players who have had a lot of minutes are not going to play against Newcastle United. The Carabao Cup is great for all the guys who don’t play regularly.

“They can play some minutes and that is perfect. But for the other players, I am not going to waste 1% of energy for the Carabao Cup.

“The likes of Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias, playing 90 minutes for us, 90 for the national team, they are exhausted already.

“That is why we are going to play with the guys who need it. “The Academy, maybe me! My back is getting better so I might manage a few minutes.”
