10 Newcastle players in contention to face Man City as injuries and fixtures pile up

Based on our current injury list, our recent schedule and upcoming games against Burnley and PSG, rotation is inevitable ahead of tomorrow's Carabao Cup clash with Man City.

Joelinton, Joe Willock, Harvey Barnes and Emil Krafth have all been ruled out, we arrive on the back of a three-game week and have SEVEN games - plus an international break to contend with - over the next month.

With that in mind, we've picked out 10 Mags who could be in contention to start - or feature at the very least - on Wednesday night:

1. Martin Dubravka - Eddie Howe promised game time to the Slovakian over the summer, insisting he still had a "big part" to play. With that in mind, this could be an ideal chance to give him some minutes.

2. Jamaal Lascelles - He won't get a look in beyond Sven Botman and Fabian Schar when both are fit, but Howe often speaks highly of the club captain and may see this as an ideal chance to rest one of our starting centre-backs.

3. Tino Livramento - I'd be shocked if we didn't see him start this one. Kieran Trippier could do with a night off and the England U21 star is more than capable of filling in. After a long spell out with a serious knee injury, he needs more than just late cameos to build his fitness and match sharpness.

4. Lewis Hall - Came on for his Newcastle debut on Sunday but is yet to start. Has the versatility to play anywhere down the left or in midfield and is another who will be desperate to show Howe what he can do.

5. Matt Targett - If Hall's versatility allows him to play in midfield - which may be needed with Joelinton and Joe Willock still out - I wouldn't be surprised if Targett came in at left-back. He left Villa due to his lack of minutes and Howe blocked late loans bids from Fulham and Nottingham Forest, so he'll be hoping for a rare start here.

6. Lewis Miley - The teenager was superb over pre-season and will play some part in this, I'm sure. Scored against Brighton's U21s over the weekend.

7. Sandro Tonali - Has only started one of our last three games and made a late appearance at Sheffield United. His quality and composure in possession could be needed against Man City; a side who'll punish any cheap giveaways.

8. Jacob Murphy - Got his only start last week in Milan and has only played four minutes of Premier League football this season, believe it or not. Fully expect him to start.

9. Alexander Isak - Didn't start at Sheffield United and I expect Callum Wilson to keep his place for Saturday's league meeting with Burnley, so it's likely the Swede returns to Howe's XI here.

10. Paul Dummett - Is yet to feature this season, but there's an outside chance he plays some part. Howe trialled a five-man defence in the final stages of Sunday's game, so he could play as a left-sided centre-back if he opts for Livramento and Hall at wing-back. Considering his lack of minutes, it would be a surprise to see him thrown in against Man City, however.
