This is brilliant from Anthony Gordon - Exciting admission & so impressive in superb interview

by Olly Hawkins ·

Anthony Gordon has revealed he's in the best physical shape of his career and determined to become a "top player", feeling quicker than ever and at the peak of his powers.

He's also explained how weeks of work on the training ground with Jason Tindall helped him score that superb goal at Sheffield United, revealing how he's worked on technique and accuracy over all out power on his shots.

With seven games to come in all competitions over the next month and a host of left-sided attackers currently out injured, it's great to hear and clear to see from his performances that the winger is fitter than ever and firing on all cylinders.

After starting all of our previous games this season, the winger was initially rested at Bramall Lane, but ended up playing 80 minutes after Harvey Barnes was forced off with what looks like a serious injury.

Speaking to NUFC TV after our 8-0 win and his best display in a black and white shirt, here's what Gordon had to say:

“I was so far away from it (last season). I’m in the best place physically I’ve been in my whole career. I feel really quick and sharp and that’s showing in my play.

"I feel I’m able to do a lot of combination play around the box and recover if we lose the ball. I feel great.

"I was a bit disappointed [at not starting]. I want to start every game. I feel like I’m playing well so I didn’t want to come out but ultimately we’ve got a really difficult season coming up which will involve large squad rotation I’d imagine. It’s a team game and when I came on it was just about playing my part.

"There was no sulking on my part, I just wanted to impact the game as much as I could for the team.

"Physically it's very difficult, doing a game every three days. It is hard, but it's hard for everyone. I want to be a top player and we want to be a top team, so to do that you've got to go through this."

Gordon also revealed that his goal at Bramall Lane was the result of some hard work on the training ground, explaining how he's been working on his shooting with Jason Tindall:

"I've been working on it for weeks with JT (Jason Tindall). Normally when I cut in, I'm aiming for the top corner and the perfect goal with loads of power, but we've been working on taking a bit of power (off my shots) and just finessing it in. Practice makes perfect, as this is exactly what we've been doing"

Whether it's his work over the summer with England, his pre-season displays, early season form or impressive interviews like this, it's clear to see Gordon is a massive talent and hugely driven to become the best version of himself under Eddie Howe. Exciting times!
