Newcastle beaten to £12m deal by Spurs as late approach fails - Report

by Olly Hawkins ·

According to reports, Newcastle tried and failed to sign Croatian wonderkid Luka Vuskovic before sealing a £12m move to Spurs.

This comes from Football Insider, who report that we made a late move for the centre-back in an attempt to hijack the deal. However, it's believed he'd already made his mind up, agreeing to join the North London side when he turns 18 in 2025.

The giant 16-year-old sensation made 11 senior appearances for HNK Hajduk Split over the 2022/23 season and is a regular in Croatia's Under-17 side. He starred in the UEFA Youth League last term, helping Split reach the final after wins over AC Milan, Man City and Borussia Dortmund.

Perhaps Vuskovic was the latest teenage sensation Dan Ashworth attempted to sign, having already brought Yankuba Minteh and Garang Kuol to the club, along with Irish defender Cathal Heffernan.

With Fabian Schar turning 32 later this year, Jamaal Lascelles entering his 30s in November and a lack of depth at centre-back, I wouldn't be surprise to see the club invest in this department in the next few transfer windows.
