Paul Merson gives Newcastle verdict and predicts Burnley clash - "They are showing signs..."

Paul Merson is backing Newcastle United to blow Burnley away 'quite comfortably', predicting a 3-0 win for Eddie Howe's Mags.

The Sky Sports pundit previously described league games against Brentford and Sheffield United as 'must wins' if we wanted to stay in top-four contention and build momentum, and we did exactly that.

Merson feels we're showing signs of 'bouncing back' after a 'rough start' to the season, hailing our outstanding display at Bramall Lane and midweek victory over Man City; where we knocked out the European Champions.

Providing we 'get after Burnley' and 'play at the tempo' shown in recent games, he believes we'll have far too much for Vincent Kompany's Clarets.

Speaking to Sportskeeda in his weekly prediction piece, here's what he's had to say:

“Newcastle United were outstanding against Sheffield United last weekend. The fact that they had eight different goalscorers in their 8-0 win was a phenomenal achievement.

“Eddie Howe and co followed it up by knocking Manchester City out of the Carabao Cup, indicating that they are showing signs of bouncing back after a rough start to the season.

“If they get after Burnley like they can and play at the tempo that has seen them succeed in recent weeks…I think they’ll blow the Clarets away quite comfortably.

“Prediction: Newcastle 3 Burnley 0”
