2 changes? - Predicted Newcastle team vs PSG as £60m duo face late fitness tests
With the return of Champions League football just hours away at St James' Park, it's time to predict the starting 11 we could see against PSG tonight.
Here's the side we're backing Eddie Howe to select and why:
Predicted NUFC XI: Pope – Trippier, Lascelles, Schar, Burn – Longstaff, Bruno, Tonali – Almiron, Isak, Gordon.
Predicted PSG XI: Donnarumma – Hakimi, Marquinhos, Škriniar, L Hernández – Vitinha, Ugarte, Zaire-Emery – Dembélé, Ramos, Mbappé.
I think we'll make two changes from the side that drew 0-0 at AC Milan two weeks ago; Jacob Murphy and Sven Botman out, Jamaal Lascelles and Miguel Almiron in. I'd have backed Joelinton and Callum Wilson to start if fit, but both are unlikely to pass late fitness tests, based on Howe's comments yesterday.
Lascelles has done well since stepping in, helping us to back-to-back clean sheets against Man City and Burnley. Elsewhere, I can’t see Howe messing with a defence that’s been on a five-game run of clean sheets, meaning Burn will remain at left-back.
Longstaff and Bruno are certain to start in midfield and should be partnered by Tonali; who has plenty of experience at this level after reaching the semi-finals last year with AC Milan. He's been passed fit by Eddie Howe and will get the nod ahead of Anderson, I believe.
Down our right, I think Howe will opt for Almiron over Murphy, who started at the San Siro. Gordon will keep his place down the left, with this being his last game for a few weeks now he’s suspended for West Ham on Sunday. Up top, it sounds like Wilson won't make it, meaning Isak could start for a third time in seven days.
