Trippier shows his class from SJP press room - Brilliant message & response to Mbappe questions

Kieran Trippier insists he is "ready" for the challenge of Kylian Mbappe and full of belief that we can beat PSG in our first Champions League game on Tyneside for over 20 years.

The England international insists "we can hurt anyone" on our day and is bang up for the test Mbappe will offer, insisting he's played against plenty of good wingers during his career.

He accepts that the Frenchman is "one of the best in the world", but is focused on picking up three points, not swapping shirts with the 24-year-old!

The right-back has also urged his Toon teammates to stay "calm", "play our way" and embrace the occasion, believing we have what it takes to beat the Ligue 1 giants.

Here's everything he had to say from the St James' Park press room, where he spoke to the media after Eddie Howe on Tuesday afternoon:

Trippier on Kylian Mbappe and the test he'll face tonight:

"This is football. This is the level you want to play at. You want to be against the best players and the best teams.

"Paris have got unbelievable players. Mbappe is one of the best in the world but they've got quality all over the pitch. [But] On our day we can hurt anyone.

"I've played against him on his debut for Monaco when I was at Spurs. I played against him for England on my debut quite a few years ago. He's a fantastic player. You want to play against the best in the world. It will be a great occasion for the club and a game we think we can win.

"He's certainly one of the best in the world. He's been incredible but every single game we always prepare how we can win the game and hurt the opposition. Tomorrow is no different. You always have to respect the opposition but you have to find a way to win.

"It's a challenge I'm ready for. I've played against plenty of good wingers and tomorrow is no different. Champions League is where I want to play. It's a challenge I'm ready for.

Trippier on his move to Newcastle the the 'huge pride' he'll feel tonight:

"When I first signed, my thought process was my family. I look back now with huge pride at the big steps we've taken in the short period of time.

"We've earned the right to be in this position. The players that were here before the takeover have been unbelievable."

Trippier on our 20-year wait for a Champions League night at SJP:

"The Geordie boys in our team have mentioned it [Nights against Barcelona and Juventus]. So many special nights here. It's been a long time since we've been in the Champions League.

"It's brilliant for everyone connected with the club. It's going to be a special occasion."

Trippier on our 0-0 draw at AC Milan, his experience and keeping calm tonight:

It was important we had the first game away from home. A great experience for those who haven't played in the competition before.

Let's play our way. Enjoy the occasion and the most important thing is everyone is calm. You have to be excited about the game and hopefully we get the win.

Trippier on his current form:

"All my career I've had setbacks but I always bounce back. I feel like I'm in good form personally and collectively we're in good form. They've got unbelievable players and a good coach. But it's a challenge we're ready for.

Trippier on Champions League football:

"I've been lucky enough to play in the competition with three different teams. Reaching the final was a great moment for me.

"But to play for the Champions League for this game is a special feeling. The city is buzzing and hopefully we can put on a good performance and come away with three points."

Trippier when asked about swapping shirts at full-time:

"It hasn't crossed my mind. My thought process is to win the game. Everyone will want Mbappe's shirt but I want the three points. Then we'll see what happens after the game."
