Sky Sports release Sandro Tonali update - Prosecutors 'close' to agreeing length of ban
Sky Sports' Keith Downie has released an update this morning on Sandro Tonali; who trained on Tyneside this morning ahead of tomorrow's Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund.
As reports in Italy have suggested, it's believed prosecutors are 'close' to agreeing a 10 month ban from football for illegal betting activity.
An official announcement on his suspension could come before Wednesday's 8pm kick-off at St James' Park, but the 23-year-old has been pictured training with his Toon teammates as normal today.
Corriere dello Sport and Sport Italia's Alfredo Pedullà both report that a plea bargain could see his suspension fall from one year to 10 months, with a rehabilitation programme also set to be in place on his return to action.
This could mean Tonali is able to return next summer and train with the team ahead of the 2024/25 season, but would see him miss the Euros with Italy.
Although full details of his ban are yet to be decided, a suspension of 10 months would be 'good news' after other outlets suggested 18-months over the weekend.
