Two reports reveal Newcastle's ongoing interest in Belgian giant - One to watch in 2024?
A couple of reports have emerged over the past 24 hours on Newcastle's January transfer plans, where a midfielder is likely to be our top priority ahead of Sandro Tonali's ban from football.
In those pieces, both The Athletic's Jacob Whitehead and Mark Douglas at the i highlight our ongoing interest in Everton's Amadou Onana.
It's believed the 6ft 4' Belgian could be a viable option for Newcastle in the new year, as Everton's financial issues could see them reluctantly cash in on the former Lille star.
The Athletic report that head of recruitment Steve Nickson is a big fan of Onana, along with Fulham's Joao Palhinha, while Douglas highlights how we took advantage of Everton's need to sell last January by signing Anthony Gordon.
The 22-year-old has started all nine of the Toffees Premier League games this season and is considered a player of huge potential. He's also able to operate as a number six or number eight and has immense physicality and athleticism; two traits Eddie Howe often looks for in a player.
He may prove to be too expensive and we may prefer a loan move for the likes of Kalvin Phillips, but it seems Onana is one to watch given our long-term interest, need for a new midfielder and Everton's perilous position.
