Newcastle considering three January moves as Toon hold recruitment talks - The Telegraph

With Sandro Tonali's 10-month suspension now confirmed, The Telegraph have released on a piece on the club's January transfer plans.

Luke Edwards reports that recruitment meetings have taken place since news of his imminent ban emerged, with Toon chiefs deciding that a midfielder - ideally on loan - will be needed in the new year.

The Telegraph reports that Man City's Kalvin Phillips, Al-Hilal's Ruben Neves and Man Utd's Scott McTominay are all under consideration ahead of the winter window.

It's believed Phillips is keen on a move to St James' Park, but unclear if Man City will help an emerging rival or agree to a loan deal if other Premier League sides are willing to buy the 27-year-old.

As for Neves, the former Wolves star could be offered a route back to the Premier League if Al-Hilal agree to a temporary move. The PIF are majority owners of both clubs, but it seems a deal would be possible if it passed the Premier League's fair market value deals, with Allan Saint-Maximin allowed to join Al Ahli over the summer.

However, it remains to be seen if those keen to bolster the Saudi Pro League would sanction such a deal, with so many 'competing voicing' behind the KSA's push to grow football in that region. Would they allow their new midfielder to join Newcastle for the remainder of the season in light of Tonali's ban? It would help us, but may undermine their attempts to make the Saudi Pro League a serious division.

Last but not least, it's said McTominay was shortlisted by Eddie Howe over the summer, only for Man Utd's asking price to put ourselves and other Premier League clubs off. It's thought their demands would be a 'huge stumbling block' again in January, with a loan deal even more unlikely based on the Red Devils' reluctance to help out a rival.
