Newcastle threaten multi-million pound case after Tonali punishment goes public - Report

According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, Newcastle are threatening to sue AC Milan after it was discovered that Sandro Tonali had been betting on their games prior to a big-money move.

The report claims that Toon chiefs are angry and considering a 'multi-million pound' lawsuit, suggesting the Serie A giants may have been aware before negotiating a £52m deal with Newcastle over the summer.

The 23-year-old came off the bench in Wednesday's 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund, but it may not be his last appearance before his 10-month ban, with the club confirming on Friday that his suspension will only come into action when they receive official paperwork from FIFA.

While he's out, Tonali will still be allowed to train with the first-team, which will be a huge plus for the player himself. However, Corriere dello Sport claim his wages - worth a reported £7m-per-year - may be suspended or reduced once the ban comes into place.
