Great news for Toon as TWO rivals slip up on Sunday - Updated Premier League table
It's been a brilliant weekend for Newcastle United, as our sensational win over Arsenal on Saturday night was followed by poor results for top-four rivals Aston Villa and Liverpool on Sunday.
Heading into today's games, Aston Villa had the chance to move five points clear of Eddie Howe's Mags if they could beat Nottingham Forest. However, goals from Ola Aina and Orel Mangala secured a 2-0 win against Unai Emery's side.
This kept us just two points behind Villa, who weren't the only contenders to slip up today, as Liverpool missed a huge chance to go six points clear of Newcastle at newly-promoted Luton.
The Hatters hadn't won at home all season, but took the lead thanks to Tahith Chong's second half strike. Deep into stoppage time, however, Luis Diaz scored a 95th-minute header to rescue a point for Jurgen Klopp's Reds.
That said, it's still a bad result for Liverpool and one that leaves us just four behind. So, all in all, a superb weekend for Newcastle, seeing us close the gap on Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa despite the latter two having far more favourable fixtures.
Here's the Premier League table following all of this weekend's games, leaving us just four points from the top-four:
