Mehrdad Ghodoussi statement - Responds to controversial tweet ahead of PSG clash

Mehrdad Ghodoussi has responded to his post-match tweet that called for a better atmosphere at St James' Park after Saturday's 4-1 win over Chelsea.

After the win, he said: "We need to give these guys more support in the stadium, we need to be louder, we need to be the 12th man." Co-owner Jamie Reuben agreed, adding "yes, we need to match the intensity of the players with our support."

This didn't go down well with many fans on social media, with some pointing out how the new ticketing system and number of 'tourists' within St James' Park has impacted the atmosphere; which wasn't actually THAT bad last weekend.

A few days on, Ghodoussi has posted the following in response to the criticism, insisting his 'heart beats in black and white' and that his 'love for the club is unwavering':

"Often, our intentions and words don't align perfectly. I believe most of you know how deeply I'm committed to this club; my heart beats in black and white, and my love for the club and all of you is unwavering.

"Let's keep our fingers crossed for tonight, we stand united. Here's to us and our journey together. Howay the Lads."

The timing and wording of his Saturday night tweet may have felt a little off, but we've seen how much he cares about Newcastle United over the past two years. He clearly just wants the best for this club and can hopefully learn from this.
