Bookies name favourites for Sunderland job - Former Newcastle boss in the running!
After their surprise decision to sack Tony Mowbray on Monday night, Sunderland are on the lookout for a new manager ahead of next month's FA Cup clash with Newcastle United.
The Mackems are just three points away from the play-off positions and finished sixth last season, but owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus clearly felt it was time for a change ahead of the Tyne and Wear derby in January.
According to Sky Bet, OGC Nice assistant Julien Sable is currently the 1/1 favourite to replace Mowbary, with highly-rated Reims boss Will Still coming next at 4/1.
Next up comes Plymouth boss Steven Schumacher (5/1), followed by Paul Heckingbottom (13/2) following his sacking at Sheffield United and Steve Bruce, with the former Newcastle boss currently the fifth favourite at 10/1.
Speaking in a recent interview, the 62-year-old - who managed Sunderland between 2009-11 - confirmed that he's looking to get "back to work" after a year out of football:
"This is the longest I've been out of the game. I was unbroken for something like 46 years, and unfortunately, I've had a year out, now.
"I've been busy building a house over the last couple of years, so I've got myself involved with that. But, look, it's time that I go back to work again."
