Paul Merson & Chris Sutton release different predictions for Spurs vs Newcastle

Paul Merson and Chris Sutton have released their predictions ahead of Newcastle's trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium today.

Merson 'has a feeling' Postecoglou's out of form Spurs side 'will nick this one', backing the North London side to come away 2-1 winners. He reckons we might have 'one eye' on Wednesday's Champions League decider against AC Milan and thinks Tottenham will respond after three-straight defeats at home.

As for Sutton, the BBC pundit is expecting an entertaining game full of goals, predicting a 3-3 draw. He doesn't see either side shutting up shop - despite Spurs picking up just one points from their last five games - and reckons we'll leave with a point after Thursday's defeat at Everton.

Much like the previous game, this is a hard one to call. I just have a feeling Ange Postecoglou’s side will nick this one.

Newcastle have been outstanding so far, but most of their players are playing out of their skins, so I think things will catch up with them sooner or later. The Magpies have a UEFA Champions League clash against AC Milan coming up too, so they’ll have one eye on that game as they are still in with a chance of making it through to the knockout stages.

They don’t have their destiny in their own hands, so they’ll have to secure a win against the Serie A giants and hope Borussia Dortmund do them a favor against Paris Saint-Germain, so it’ll be an interesting one to keep an eye out for.

Spurs are on a bit of a bad run, but something tells me they’ll show up and record a narrow 2-1 win.

Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 Newcastle United

Chris Sutton (BBC Sport):

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou needs a positive result after taking only one point from the past five games. But we already know he will carry on playing in the same way, which means anything can happen here.

Newcastle's away form has not been great recently, with just one league win on the road so far this season, but they are not going to change their approach either.

Both teams are missing some key players through injury but neither side will just try to shut up shop. I feel like this is going to be really open, with both teams going for it... and lots of goals.

Sutton's prediction: Spurs 3-3 Newcastle
