Eddie Howe issues rallying cry to fans and players ahead of huge AC Milan clash

Eddie Howe has urged every fan inside St James' Park to "make a difference" during tonight's Champions League decider against AC Milan.

As ever, the boss speaks so well ahead of the game, saying "we'll give everything" to try and win and create a "magical night" for Newcastle United fans hoping to see us reach the last 16 after 20 years away from Europe's biggest stage.

He insists that the team are positive and determined to respond after two poor performances, adding that fans can make a huge difference to lift the team and roar us on to victory; even if we do need PSG to avoid a win in Dortmund to make it through.

Speaking to the press ahead of the match, Howe issued this brilliant message:

"We are very positive going into the game. It has all the hallmarks of being a very special night. All we can do is try and win the game and try and give our best performance. We'll give everything to try and do that. 

“The fans have been there for us this season, we are going to need every voice, every person can make a difference for us. We need to create an atmosphere that has been befitting of our home form, the supporters have never let us down at home. They have really driven us on, in tight games, they have really given us the ability to keep going. We are going to need that again.

“To make it a magical European night (is my message to the fans). They can only do so much, so we have to do our bit for them.

“We are desperate to stay in this competition first and foremost. Our intention is to do everything we can to try and win the match. We worked so hard to get to this position in the first place, we gave everything last year to try and achieve this level of football, we do not want to give it away lightly.

“Being under the lights here, in the UEFA Champions League, is always very special. We have something to play for and everything to gain. Before the Paris game we'd have taken this position - it could've been very different but we are where we are in the pisiton we're in. To be here with some kind of destiny in our hands, European football still in our hands, I think we would have taken that at the start of the group.

"We are looking forward to trying to improve on our last two performances. The lads are very focused. We can control our performance and we will make sure we give everything we can to try and win.”
