Howe admits summer move is out of his hands & drops bombshell on Chelsea loanee Lewis Hall

Lewis Hall’s future at Newcastle has been put in doubt after Eddie Howe said today that he “can’t confirm” whether or not the defender would be signed permanently next summer.

Speaking to the press this morning, Howe said: “You’re asking the wrong man. I’m not 100 per cent sure. I can’t confirm (that he’ll stay). Lewis is a really talented player and has huge technical qualities. He is creative and has a very good final delivery. He is a really good attacking full back.”

“He’s got certain things to learn defensively which we are working on with him. But he’s a young age and recently converted to left back. He may need a little time to get that defensive solidity that we’re looking for.”

Asked who would make the decision on his permanent move, Howe said: “It’s not mine. He’s here now. He’s a Newcastle player. I think there’s certain criteria he has to meet.”

Hall was brought in on loan from Chelsea in the summer with the potential to make the move permanent for around £28m, but that depends on if he hits certain criteria during his loan.

The 19-year-old featured in a handful of games because of injuries to Dan Burn and Matt Targett, but since Tino Livramento came in at left-back, Hall hasn’t featured a great deal. 

Considering how tired the current group of players have been in the last two weeks, the lack of minutes for Hall has raised a few eyebrows amongst the fan base who are questioning if the move will be made permanent.

Some have suggested that Howe may have some doubts about the teenager, hence the lack of playing time, while others think it could be to do with FFP restrictions or 

Only the club really know, but Howe, as ever, is keeping his cards close to his chest.
