Premier League appointment announced as second manager is sacked ahead of Toon trip

Newcastle United's next opponents at St James' Park will be arriving with a fresh face in the dugout - and hopefully no new manager bounce.

After sacking Steve Cooper on Tuesday night, making him the second Premier League casualty after Sheffield United's Paul Heckingbottom, Nottingham Forest have announced the appointment of Nuno Espírito Santo as their new head coach.

The Portuguese boss will take charge of his first game on Saturday, which sees them host Bournemouth at The City Ground, but his opening away game will be a trip to Tyneside on Boxing Day, where we take on the Reds in the 12.30pm kick-off.

Cooper was dismissed after just one win in their last 13 games and two away wins in his last 28, although many Forest fans seem gutted to see him go after he guided them from Championship strugglers to staying up comfortably last season.

As for Nuno, he previously guided Wolves to the Europa League and also had a brief spell at Spurs. His last job was in Saudi Arabia, where he led the Al-Ittihad to league and domestic cup honours last season.
