Sky Sports release Kalvin Phillips update as Newcastle & Juventus eye Man City outcast

Sky Sports have issued an update on Newcastle's interest in Kalvin Phillips as the Man City midfielder prepares to leave the Etihad next month.

They confirm that we are keen to bring the 28-year-old to St James' Park in January, but 'prefer a loan' that allows him to cover for the suspended Sandro Tonali.

The report states that we're conscious of FFP constraints, which may be even tighter now we've exited Europe, meaning we are reluctant to commit to the permanent deal Man City prefer.

Like Anthony Gordon's arrival last January, our summer budget could be moved forward if the right deal emerges, but the player currently earns £7m a year - or £135,000 per week - so a loan where we pay a portion of that wage is preferable.

Juventus' interest is also confirmed, although Sky Sports reveal that the Serie A giants are also keen on Tottenham's Pierre Emile Hojbejrg.
