Two Mags linked with surprise exits - One possible, the other surely nonsense?
Jamaal Lascelles and Sean Longstaff have both been linked with potential moves away from St James' Park over the past 24 hours.
The Mail report that Besiktas are showing interest in Lascelles - who is likely to see his game time suffer following Sven Botman's return from a knee injury - while Alan Nixon (The Sun) claims we will 'listen to offers' for Sean Longstaff.
Sky Sports reported that Besiktas were preparing a late bid for the skipper over the final few days of the summer window, so talk of them being keen feels plausible, even if a January move would be a surprise given our lack of depth at CB.
However, I don't believe for a minute that Eddie Howe is willing to cash in on Longstaff. Both are valued members of the squad, but Longstaff plays in a position we are looking to strengthen following Sandro Tonali's ban and injuries to Elliot Anderson and Joe Willock, not weaken.
Every player has a price and we will, at some stage, have to sell certain players to create space in the squad and balance the books from an FFP perspective, it just seems like the most unlikely of exits.
Back to Lascelles, he really stepped up in Botman's absence and may find it tough reverting to a back-up role. I could see him leaving for regular first-team football soon enough, but it remains to be seen if he'd relocate to Turkey after just shy of a decade on Tyneside.
