Two Mags recalled, Howe denies Minteh claims and sanctions second loan move

Eddie Howe will take a closer look at Joe White before he decides where the Geordie midfielder will spend the second half of the 2023/24 season, while Isaac Hayden looks set to leave on a second loan deal.

White, 21, has impressed during a loan spell with Crewe, where manager Lee Bell has confirmed ongoing talks between Newcastle and the League Two side over extending his stay. Hayden has had an 'inconsistent' spell with Belgian side Standard Liege and is expected to join an English club for the second half of the campaign.

Howe seems keen to assess White in training, which makes sense after fellow local lads Elliot Anderson and Lewis Miley become key parts of the squad this season, but it seems Hayden has no future at the club.

As for Yankuba Minteh, another Mag currently out on loan, Howe told the media that there is NO clause that allows us to recall him from Feyenoord, describing that as a "difficult situation for us." Here's what he had to say on all three...

Howe on Joe White - "We've decided to bring Joe back and we'll see where he's at in terms of his development. He's done very well, especially latterly in his loan. I'm really pleased with Joe - he's a really highly talented player. He had certain things to work on, but he's gone on loan, played regularly and is starting to contribute goals and assists. We'll bring him back, see where his game is at and make a decision based on that."

Howe on Isaac Hayden - "I think Isaac will go out on loan, possibly somewhere else. I am slightly unsure (where he'll go) at the minute."

Howe on Yankuba Minteh - "There's no clause (to recall him), so that's a difficult situation for us. We'll assess all options regarding that one."

White has scored three times for Crewe so far this season, netting the winner in last weekend's victory over Mansfield. Howe may feel he can play a part - especially if Joelinton, Willock and Anderson struggle to shrug off recent injuries - but we may also be considering options in League One or the Championship, should other loan offers arrive.

Hayden has been linked with the likes of Sheffield United, Blackburn, Preston and Plymouth, while Minteh seems unlikely to return this month now Murphy is "close" to returning from a shoulder injury.
