'Breaking news' on Friday morning - Euro giants planning shock move for NUFC star
Some 'breaking news' has arrived from The Chronicle's Lee Ryder this morning, who reports that Bayern Munich want to bring Newcastle United star Kieran Trippier to Germany.
The Bundesliga giants are hoping he'll be tempted to join fellow England internationals Harry Kane and Eric Dier, who he knows well from his time at Tottenham and in the national team.
Trippier is a vital part of Eddie Howe's side and a leader within the group, but he is approaching the final year of his contract on Tyneside, with the 33-year-old's current deal expiring in 2025.
I'd be shocked if we sold our vice-captain this month. However, with Tino Livramento a ready-made replacement and the club recently hinting at 'player trading' to help us cope with FFP/PSR constraints, it may be something we consider in the near future given his age and contract situation?
Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel confirmed that he is in the market for another right-back who is "strong in duels" in a recent interview, saying: "We are looking for a right-back who is strong in duels. We’ll see if something is possible.
"Nous Mazraoui is at the Africa Cup, but we have also gotten used to Konrad Laimer at right-back, even though it’s not his best position. If there’s an opportunity on the market, we’ll take it. Otherwise things will stay this way."
