Keith Downie issues deadline day update on Isak injury and possible late deals

by Olly Hawkins ·

With less than 10 hours remaining until the January transfer window closes, Sky Sports' Keith Downie has issued an update on all things Newcastle.

He reports that Alexander Isak's injury 'could have changed things' in our pursuit of a late loan signing, but the 'early indications' suggest he will be 'back soon' as his groin problem is not too bad.

Not only that, Downie believes it's now 'too late' in the window for Newcastle to be creative and sign within FFP restrictions, as any arrival was dependant on someone leaving; which appears unlikely.

Paul Dummett and Jamaal Lascelles have been linked with possible moves today, with the former receiving an enquiry from Ipswich and the latter remaining a target for Besiktas. However, the pair seem likely to stay at this stage. Even if one departed, it would not leave us time to find a replacement.

Back to Isak, The Telegraph's Luke Edwards seems to think Isak will be out for around two to four weeks, easing Newcastle's need to sign a replacement with Harvey Barnes and Callum Wilson close to returning.

Let's just hope these 'early indications' on Isak are correct, as we'd be taking a huge risk going into the second half of the season with a half-fit Wilson are our only available striker.
