Newcastle's summer shortlist - New report names 6 players the club could pursue

by Olly Hawkins ·

The Chronicle have released a piece on Joelinton's future and Newcastle's summer plans, naming SIX players on our transfer shortlist following long-term interest.

It's hoped Joelinton signs a new deal ahead of a fresh round of talks, but midfielder targets are being lined up; whether the Brazilian remain at the club or not.

Everton's Amadou Onana is thought to be a leading option and someone the club looked to sign last month, only for FFP restrictions to make any winter move a complete non-starter.

He will not come cheap, however, meaning European alternatives have also been identified, with Atalanta's Ederson, Valencia's Javi Guerra and Nice's Khephren Thuram 'highly thought of' at the club.

Bournemouth's Philip Billing is seen as a 'cost-effective option' who could add depth and Premier League experience to our squad, although he may be considered someone who would bulk up our squad, not directly replace a key player.

Last but not least, the piece reveals that Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite is a long-term target of ours and someone Eddie Howe is a big admirer of. However, with so many big clubs keen and his price tag increasing with every strong display, a summer deal would not be straightforward for the future England international.
