After it was announced last night that Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi have sold their shares in Newcastle United and departed after three years at the club, the pair have released emotional statements on social media.

Addressing Newcastle fans directly, Staveley hailed the 'extraordinary' support and expressed how privileged she feels to have been a 'small part' of our 'precious' club, also paying tribute to the 'world-class' Eddie Howe, Jason Tindall and Women's boss Becky Langley.

She also described the Saudi PIF and the Reuben brothers - who have upped their stake to 85% and 15% respectively - as 'remarkable custodians' who will look after the club, 'constantly challenge' for Europe and push for trophies in the years to come.

Amanda Staveley on Instagram - “Nothing I write today can ever express my gratitude or describe the debt I owe you all. Your support over the last years has been extraordinary, and no fans deserve success more than you.

"Being a small part of your precious Newcastle United has been a privilege, and I will cherish the memories of every single moment. Working with Eddie, Jason, and Becky has taught me so much. They are truly world class - and I will miss everyone terribly.

"Mehrdad and I have relished the role we had at the club - we particularly loved working alongside Yasir, our PIF colleagues and Jamie to create a club that will constantly challenge for Europe and will be capable of winning trophies.

"I know PIF and RB will continue to be remarkable custodians - and the club will receive the required support over the coming years.”

Husband and former co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi has also issued a message of his own, thanking the fans for their passion, support and love on this 'truly unforgettable' journey, also paying tribute to Howe, his staff, the players, Chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the PIF and co-owner Jamie Reuben:

Mehrdad Ghodoussi on Instagram and X: "I just want to say a huge thank you to the fans and the city for embracing Amanda and me with such open arms. Your passion and support have made this journey truly unforgettable. You have played such an important role in our lives these last few years, and nothing will take those memories away. Newcastle will always have a special place in our hearts, and we will cherish our time there forever.

"I'd like to thank Eddie, the coaching staff, the players, and of course our Chairman, Yasir, and the PIF team, Jamie, and the rest of the Reuben family for being such great partners.

"Finally, l've seen all your messages, and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you. I'll always be a supporter and a proud member of the Toon Army. I will love and remember you all forever, and I know the club will keep achieving great things with your amazing support."

We can't thank them enough. Thank you for giving us hope, fighting for our club and working so tirelessly over the first three years of this exciting new era at Newcastle United.
