Newcastle close to £60m signing in major coup for Paul Mitchell and Eddie Howe - Report
Some huge claims have emerged from The Telegraph in the last few moments, with Luke Edwards reporting that Newcastle United are closing in on the signing of Marc Guehi.
He reports that a fee 'in excess of £60m' is close to being agreed for the England international centre-back after talks between Toon chiefs and Crystal Palace 'progressed well' over the last few days.
There's now confidence a deal will be agreed and personal terms will 'not be a problem', with the player himself said to be very keen to complete a move to St James' Park - so much so he's 'urged his representatives' to push through a deal.
It's believed a deal could be concluded before the end of the week and would mark a significant coup for Newcastle United, Eddie Howe and new sporting director Paul Mitchell, who have been pushing to bring in a young, athletic, right-footed centre-back all summer.
This really would be an outstanding signing for the club and a real statement of intent after a frustrating summer so far. It may leave funds a little light if he arrives - players may need to be sold to raise funds for a top right-winger to also arrive - but in Guehi we'd have one of the best centre-backs in the country who is Premier League proven and eager to sign.
