Newcastle shortlist three wingers as club eye £15m for Miguel Almiron - Report

According to Mark Douglas at the i, Newcastle United have three wingers in mind should a club match our £15m+ asking price for Miguel Almiron.

He reports that Chelsea's Noni Madueke is a leading target, but reveals that Fiorentina's Nico Gonzalez and Nottingham Forest's Anthony Elanga have also been shortlisted.

It's believed Eddie Howe is a 'huge fan' of Madueke, with the club feeling he has big potential and the ability to improve our first-team in the short-term.

Douglas reveals that we approached Forest over Elanga's availability earlier in the summer, while The Athletic and Italian media have previously reported on our interest in Gonzalez. As things stand, PSR could price us out of a move for either, but that may change if asking prices drop and Almiron is sold.

After MLS side Charlotte FC failed with their attempt to land the Paraguayan, the i report that Newcastle are demanding 'in excess of £15m' for Miggy, as Atlanta United inserted a 'sizeable sell-on clause' into his move to St James' Park back in 2019.

Interestingly, Douglas adds that Saudi side Al-Ettifaq - managed by Steven Gerrard - held preliminary talks over a move for Almiron earlier this summer, while unnamed clubs overseas also hold an interest in the 30-year-old who still has two years left on his contract.

A deal for Marc Guehi appears to be in serious doubt, but it seems pretty clear that player sales will be vital should we look to sign a right-winger after spending big on a centre-back; especially if it's Guehi for £60m+.
