Three centre-backs on Newcastle's radar with Marc Guehi decision imminent - Report
The Athletic have issued an update on Newcastle's centre-back pursuit, discussing three players who've been looked at should we walk away from a deal for Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi.
Chris Waugh reports that Newcastle realise the Guehi saga cannot drag on much longer, with the club expected to move on to other targets if a fee isn't agreed in the 'next few days', with Palace currently demanding a guaranteed £65m plus £5m in add-ons.
It's not clear who exactly Newcastle will target if we pursue other right-footed centre-backs, but The Athletic mention that Liverpool's Joe Gomez, AC Milan's Malick Thiaw and Chelsea's Trevoh Chalobah are all ones to watch, with other domestic and overseas names also discussed.
Newcastle held talks over a £45m deal for Gomez in June before the PSR deadline and the 27-year-old is expected to leave after missing out on Arne Slot's squad for Saturday's 2-0 win over Ipswich.
Thiaw is a long-term target who has been watched extensively by scouts - he was strongly linked in over July before the Guehi interest went public - and Chalobah has 'featured on target lists before', making him an option now he's set to leave Chelsea over the next 10 days.
