Newcastle linked with shock bid for Europa Conference League winner

According to reports today, Newcastle United are considering a move for Olympiacos midfielder Santiago Hezze.

This comes from Gaston Edul - a South American reporter at TyC Sports with 947,000 followers on X - who claims that Newcastle 'could make an offer' for the Argentine talent over the final week of the transfer window.

Hezze is a 22-year-old holding midfielder who played 50 times in all competitions for the Greek giants last season, with nine of them coming on their way to Europa Conference League glory as they beat Fenerbahce and Aston Villa before overcoming Fiorentina in the final.

The Argentinian represented his country at this summer's Olympics, where he started their first two games prior to their quarter-final defeat to finalists France.

As for the transfer link itself, we lack depth behind Bruno Guimaraes in that 'No. 6' position, with few of our current midfield options able to play in a holding role. However, I'd be surprised if we spend anything significant on another midfielder when we're in the market for a right-footed centre-back and right winger .
