Howe issues deadline day update from Newcastle's training ground
Eddie Howe has been speaking to the press in the last few moments, offering a deadline day update from the club's training ground as we scramble to sav a pretty awful summer transfer window.
Speaking to the media, he said there is "still time" and "still work going on" to try and bring a new signing in, but he admits that it's "looking difficult" with a matter of hours left until tonight's 11pm deadline.
"I don't know," he said when asked if we'll make a late signing. "Currently there is still time and there is still work going on to try and see what we can do in the last few hours of the window. So while there's time is hope."
“With such a short time left, it is looking difficult. This window continues to be difficult for us. We're in a difficult situation with PSR, available funds and attracting the right players who we think can make a difference. That is such a delicate spot for us and we have to hit it right.
"If we don't (find the right player/deal), then doing nothing is perhaps the best option, as frustrating as that is. There is a feeling that we have a good squad, but a feeling there are a few areas we felt we needed to strengthen.
"I'm not going to sit here and say this has been a brilliant transfer window for us. I don't know if expecting [another signing] is the right word, but we are hopeful of course."
It was revealed yesterday that our move for Marc Guehi was on the brink of collapse. Links to right-wingers have also gone quiet, while a potential bid for Burnley stopper James Trafford has been mooted; not that it would address our obvious first-team concerns.
